The Eclectic Closet

Hey Guys!! Day two at Cosmo was great. I started the day by getting an id card for the hearst building. I was then placed into the fashion closet to assist the other interns. The main task in the closet is check-ins and check-outs of sample clothing from designers and pr companies. Clothes come into the closet and we check them into the system by taking a picture and filing the invoice it came with. After the clothes are shot for the magazine, they are moved to the returns rack and we must check them out. Sometimes the designer or pr company requests the clothes back immediately and other times we send them back when the closet begins to fill up. The check-out process involves odering a mesenger from Dynamex to come and pick up the clothing and return it to its rightful owner. The hardest part of doing a return is finding the clothes in the tons of racks that fill the closet.

My supervisor, Lauren Finney, showed me the basics today so that I would have no problem with any small task she may ask in the future. I learned how to operate the color and black and white copiers. I was introduced to the fax machine and the filing drawers, closets, and cabinets. My first task was to file the lookbooks from the spring/summer 2009 runway shows. The lookbooks are used by the fashion market editor, Karen Larain, to pull looks for fob(front of book) pictures and the inside feature photos.

I spent the rest of the day searching for returns in the closet and becoming acquainted with the other winter fashion interns: Meredith, Faye, Kayla, and Beverly.
