1992, Whitney!!, and Training Day

Hey everyone! What a great week this has been so far. On Monday night I went to an awesome 1992 themed party in LES hosted by Vashtie and Oscar at a cute club named Happy Ending. I had a good time and the music and drinks were great.

At work on Tuesday, we all stopped what we were working on and went to the conference room to watch the inauguration. There were tears of joy and an excitement in the air for our new President Barack Obama. As the inauguration ended, Whitney Port from MTV's "The City" strolled into the Cosmopolitan office. I have the biggest obsession!! She is too cool. Her personal style is amazing and I adore her show. I passed by her in the office but no words were exchanged. I missed my chance(insert sad face). Anyway. she came by because she is going to be on the cover for June and her shoot is Thursday. She talked to the fashion editors and met with Kate White(the editor-in-chief of Cosmo). The rest of the day consisted of lots of returns and a few trips to pick up samples for Whitney's shoot.

On Wednesday Lauren(fashion assistant and my supervisor) had a few new spring interns starting. It was my job to train them and show them the ropes. They are spring interns and plan to be there until May so when I leave they will run the place. I introduced them to the fashion closets and showed them how to do returns and check-ins. We went over the copy machine and filing procedures. Lauren told me I did an awesome job training them and I was happy she gave me the responsibility.

Today was the day of the Whitney Port cover shoot. I was not able to be a part of the shoot because I had to give another intern a shot at assisting with the photo shoot, but I was able to travel to the site twice to deliver jewelry and clothing for Whitney. I saw her trying on outfits and getting her hair styled. Awesome!!! When I returned to the office I trained a new batch of interns and worked on lookboards and returns!!

Intern Meeting with Kate White @ 3:00!!!

Hey guys!! I had another awesome day at Cosmo. I started off the day by helping out in the fashion closet and checking out a few items. I was waiting on the trunks from the fashion show to arrive from the studio so I could unpack them and check them into the closet.

My next task was to call about 25 modeling agencies in los angeles and ask them to send comp cards of models who they thought would be appropriate for the magazine. There is going to be a shoot for the features sections of the magazine in la in February so we have to be prepared with the models now. I then organzined and filed some model request forms and lookbooks.

Later Lauren sent me out to pickup from Chanel and Gucci for their run-through at 3:30pm. I had to rush back in order to make the ideas meeting that was scheduled at 3:00pm. At the meeting all of the interns introduced themselves. It was nice because I always see these girs around the office, but we are always to busy to stop and chat. After introductions we each took turns discussing ideas we had for the magazine. At the end of the meeting, Kate White, the editor-in-chief, introduced herself and told us about how she entered into the magazine industry. She also gave us advice about what we should do if we are interested in getting a job at Cosmo or any other publication. I really enjoyed hearing her stories and asking her questions.

After the meeting I spent the rest of the day in the closet organizing and staritening up because the cast of Ugly Betty is coming to shoot a scene in our closet!!! How exciting!! I can't wait to tell you all about it!!!

First Photo shoot!!!

Hey Guys!! I know its pretty late but I have to tell you about Saturday!!!!!!! OMG I went to my first photo shoot ever!! The celebrity was Leighton Meester from Gossip Girl(XOXO). Anyway, it was a great learning experience for me. I arrived at the studio at around 8:30 am and I was the only one there. I immediately started to unpack the trunks of clothing and accessories we had packed the night before at Cosmo. I layed out all of the shoes and hung the clothing on the racks. I also took an inventory of all of the jewelry to make sure nothing got lost in transit.

Rebecca Hessel, one of the fashion editors arrived a few minutes later and she began to set up the bras and tailoring kit. I steamed all of the pieces and cut the tags off of all the clothes. The entire Cosmo team showed up soon after. Photographers, lighting speacialists, hair, and make-up staff arrived and we all ate breakfast that was catered(awesome!). Leighton Meester arrived at around 11:40 am and after she ate she was put into wardobe and styled by Michelle McCool( senior fashion editor) and Rebecca. After wardrobe she was sent to hair and finally make-up. She looked so cute.

When they started shooting I was on set to assist with any minor task. I was asked to cover the bottom of Leighton's shoes with masking tape so that she would'nt scuff them as she walked around. I steamed her outfits about five times to make sure the wrinkles would never come back. I also played dj for a while with my ipod!

Leighton was shot in 5 different looks and the shoot didnt end until about 5:30 pm. I stayed until 6:30 pm to pack up and say goodnight to everyone. The day was pretty long but I enjoyed every second of it and I can't wait to tell the other interns !!!

The Eclectic Closet

Hey Guys!! Day two at Cosmo was great. I started the day by getting an id card for the hearst building. I was then placed into the fashion closet to assist the other interns. The main task in the closet is check-ins and check-outs of sample clothing from designers and pr companies. Clothes come into the closet and we check them into the system by taking a picture and filing the invoice it came with. After the clothes are shot for the magazine, they are moved to the returns rack and we must check them out. Sometimes the designer or pr company requests the clothes back immediately and other times we send them back when the closet begins to fill up. The check-out process involves odering a mesenger from Dynamex to come and pick up the clothing and return it to its rightful owner. The hardest part of doing a return is finding the clothes in the tons of racks that fill the closet.

My supervisor, Lauren Finney, showed me the basics today so that I would have no problem with any small task she may ask in the future. I learned how to operate the color and black and white copiers. I was introduced to the fax machine and the filing drawers, closets, and cabinets. My first task was to file the lookbooks from the spring/summer 2009 runway shows. The lookbooks are used by the fashion market editor, Karen Larain, to pull looks for fob(front of book) pictures and the inside feature photos.

I spent the rest of the day searching for returns in the closet and becoming acquainted with the other winter fashion interns: Meredith, Faye, Kayla, and Beverly.

Cosmo Day 1

Wow! Today was my first day at Cosmopolitain. When I walked through the doors of the Hearst building I headed over to the front desk to be checked in. In about 15 minutes I was called up to the 38th floor which is the home of Cosmopolitan Magazine!! I was greeted by Lauren Finney who is one of the fashion assistants for the magazine. She showed me around and I have to say my favorite part of the tour was the fashion closet!! I was amazed by all of the clothes and accessories that filled the room. She showed me my desk in the closet and my computer. She informed me of some of my responsibilities such as opening her mail and the mail of the fashion market director: Karen Larrain. I am also responsible for checking in and checking out deliveries to the fashion closet. She told me I will be helping with two photoshoots and the beginning of fashion week( Are you kidding me?!). After we looked at the boards for the March issue and the lookbooks from the spring 09 fashion shows. I was happy to see the lookbook from the Tuleh show, which I worked for last summer. I was then introduced to the Senior Fashion Editor, Heather Pfaff. My favorite part of the day was when I was asked to brainstorm fashion tips to be featured in the March issue of Cosmopolitan! I only stayed half-day today because Lauren had a doctors appointment but I feel like I learned a great deal so far and I am excited for the rest of the month to unfold. Anyway I can't wait until my first full day on Monday!
